Public golf course
The 18-hole "Great Southern" course at the Great Southern Golf Club facility in Gulfport, Mississippi features 6,214 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71 . The course rating is 70.4 and it has a slope rating of 124. Designed by Donald J. Ross, ASGCA/(R)Brian Curley, ASGCA, the Great Southern golf course opened in 1908.
All prices included round and cart. Weekday is $30, weekend is $40, after 2pm is $25, 9 holes weekday and weekend are $20, and if you are going to walk the course it is still the same price as with cart, and as of right now it is first come first served. No public tee times are needed. The pro shop is a temp trailer for now. Putting and chipping green have been rebuilt and are playable as of aug 2007. They now have a grill with limited food but at least it hot food. They have hamburgers, hotdogs, blt, breakfast sandwiches, club sandwiches, daily specials. Some of the greens are still in pretty rough shape. However, it was a fun, inexpensive, uncrowded course to play; and there are some great views of the Gulf of Mexico. Played this course in 2008, and plan to return this year. Considering what the course has been through, it is in good shape. Greens were in pretty good shape. One of the yardages on the par 3's was way off. A great bargain for $30. I really like the layout-could have used at least a drawing of some of the holes, as they have hidden ditches with water that can get you into trouble.
