Public golf course
Opening in 1953, Sunkist is one of the most popular courses in the area. This beautifully manicured course measures 6400 yards with four sets of tees. Add the water, sand and the NEW "Champions" greens and it makes for a great golfing experience for all skill levels.
Much of the Mississippi coast was devastated by Hurricane Katrina on Aug. 29, 2005, and the area's golf courses obviously suffered. But one of them, Sunkist Country Club, actually prospered. Sunkist lost around 400 trees and half the terrain had rising water on it."Other than that, our maintenance crew has done a magnificent job of getting it back in shape," the owner Mr. Baronich said.
Sunkist is a familiar place for longtime Biloxi-area golfers. It opened in 1953 from a design by Frank Steidle.
Its playability is what draws a lot of members. The course is short at 6,313 yards and has a benign slope rating of 121. There is water, but it's rarely troublesome, and there are few bunkers. This is a fun golf course--much improved over last year or so. New automatic watering system is a BIG plus. i will be back! However, the course is overpriced compared to others played in area. Grill personnel was very friendly and helpful. Greens were tremendous, but the $65 fee is way to high for this course in this area, many nicer courses for better price.
